Jessica Ramos (D), Former Cuomo Critic, Endorses Him for New York City Mayor

Andrew M. Cuomo’s bid to become mayor of New York City received an unexpected boost from a rival Democratic candidate on Friday, when Jessica Ramos joined him to announce that she was endorsing him.

The move by Ms. Ramos stunned her allies on the progressive left, who questioned her motivation, especially given her frequent criticisms of Mr. Cuomo since he resigned as New York’s governor in 2021 after a sexual harassment scandal.

Ms. Ramos, a state senator from Queens, said in April that Mr. Cuomo’s “mental acuity is in decline” and that New Yorkers could not afford a “Joe Biden moment” at City Hall, in reference to the former president’s health concerns. She had called for Mr. Cuomo, 67, to resign in 2021, and often alluded to the sexual harassment allegations on the campaign trail.

As recently as Wednesday night, she told Politico that she wished she “lived in a city where voters cared about women getting harassed.”
