Stefanik to co-chair yearlong review of post-9/11 intelligence reforms - Albany Times Union
The bipartisan assessment begins a year ahead of the attacks 25th anniversary.
ALBANY U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik will co-chair a bipartisan congressional review of how the federal government has implemented post-9/11 intelligence reforms, launching a yearlong effort ahead of the attacks 25th anniversary.
Announced Thursday, the review will identify gaps and areas for improvement in the implementation of the 9/11 Commissions 2004 recommendations. Over the next year, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence will assess the status of adopted reforms and the nations preparedness for emerging threats.
According to the committee, the U.S. threat landscape has changed markedly, with different adversaries than those targeted during the War on Terror.
Stefanik said in a news release that she is honored to lead the review.
It is important that the intelligence community is equipped to counter terrorism over the next 25 years amid a quickly evolving landscape, she added.
Stefanik spokesman Wendell Husebo said more specific details on the congresswomans vision for the review will be shared in the coming weeks.
