Mamdani is joined by Ro Khanna in hopes of exciting South Asian voters.

Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani looked out at the crowd in Major Mark Park in Jamaica, Queens, on Saturday afternoon — full of hijabs and kufis, beards dyed orange and a food truck selling Bengali food — and beamed with pride. The park was filled with fellow New Yorkers who looked like him and shared similar immigrant experiences.

Mr. Mamdani described how his mother, the filmmaker Mira Nair, who was at the rally, had recently called him and asked which polls to trust as the race drew to a close.

His answer? None of them.

“Do not believe in any poll that you see,” Mr. Mamdani said. “Do not think that the odds that you will find on a betting site will tell you what will happen in this election.”
