2 incumbents lose Charlotte's Democratic primaries

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte's primary election has decided which candidates will challenge for seats on the city council in November.

Five of Charlotte's Districts, as well as the at-large seats, were featured in Tuesday's primary. Incumbents prevailed most of the races, except for Districts 3 and 4. District 6 only featured new candidates.

The primary follows controversy surrounding the Charlotte City Council over a $305,000 settlement with CMPD police chief Johnny Jennings. Council members have also recently dealt with issues of affordable housing, transit initiatives, and most recently, safety concerns after a deadly stabbing on the light rail in South End.
