'Ballot selfie' proponent hopes to see case resolved by November

The Libertarian voter challenging North Carolina’s ban on “ballot selfies” hopes a federal court will resolve her appeal by the November election. Susan Hogarth filed paperwork Saturday asking appellate judges to expedite her case.

Defendants in the case “take no position” on Hogarth’s request, according to the court filing.

A federal judge issued a March 9 ruling upholding state laws that constitute the ballot selfie ban. Hogarth filed a notice of appeal on March 20.

Now her lawyers, led by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, are asking the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals to cut the normal time allotted for briefing in the case.
