'Definitely disappointing.' Issue 14, Perry Township's road levy, fails by 2-1 margin

PERRY TWP. – An initiative aimed at funding township street repaving projects was soundly defeated by a nearly 2-1 margin in Tuesday's primary election.

Perry's five-year, 2.9-mill road levy was given a clear thumbs-down with 2,472 votes (65%) against, while 1,335 votes (35%) were for the measure, according to unofficial results from the Stark County Board of Elections office.

"It's not surprising but definitely disappointing — for sure," said Trustee Ralph DeChiara Jr. moments after learning the final vote tally Tuesday night. "It's going to be a tough road to hoe ahead."

For the third time in about a year, Perry electors have rejected a road levy. The denial leaves the township in a rough patch for funding road repaving projects.
