Steubenville mayor urges passage of renewal levy ahead of Ohio primary election

With Ohio’s primary election just over two weeks away, Steubenville voters will decide whether to renew two city levies that Mayor Ralph Petrella says are essential to keeping the city operating as it does now.

The renewal levies on the ballot would continue funding that is already in place for several critical city operations, including the police and fire departments.

“We have our 3/10ths levy and our 7/10ths levy on this year’s primary ballot and they are vitally important for us to pass," Petrella said. "One funds all of our parks and rec budget, so it's really important to make sure we have programs for our kids, that we can staff the MLK Center. The other levy funds about 80 percent of our employees’ paychecks and retirement."

Petrella said he wants to make sure residents understand what is being asked of them at the ballot box.
