Cottage Grove nonprofit agency files lawsuit against former employee, friend

COTTAGE GROVE — A nonprofit agency in the Cottage Grove area is suing a former employee, alleging he stole more than $20,000 from the organization and deleted the agency’s electronic financial records to cover his tracks.

Aprovecho, a sustainable living research and education campus located on forested property about five miles northwest of Cottage Grove, is suing former administrative coordinator Dante Layton, as well as one of Layton’s friends, for a total of $33,565.

The lawsuit was filed last week in Lane County Circuit Court.

According to the lawsuit, Layton, who also goes by the names Mujahid Abdallah and Mamdouh ed Haked, had worked for the agency since 2013. He initially was hired as an office manager but was promoted in early 2014 to administrative coordinator.
