University of Oregon considering plan to raise undergraduate tuition 10.6 percent

University of Oregon in-state undergraduate students may face a 10.6 percent increase in tuition in the fall, to pay for rising salaries, health care and retirement costs for UO employees, under a proposal backed by UO President Michael Schill.

An internal UO board recommended a $945 per-year tuition increase for full-time, in-state undergraduate students for the 2017-18 academic year, plus a $186 per year increase in mandatory fees.

The increases follow years of steadily rising tuition and fees for in- and out-of-state students. But the 10.6 percent tuition hike proposed for the 2017-18 school year is above the 8.3 percent average annual tuition and fee increase for in-state students during the past decade, according to UO figures.

Schill said in a letter to UO students and staff he has “little choice” but to accept the proposal. He would also raise out-of-state undergraduate tuition by $945 a year, a 3 percent increase.

UO really is an awesome school and a member of the Association of American Universities.

There are cheaper options in OR if needed.
