As pressure to drop prescription prices continues to mount nationally, grocery chain Giant Eagle will announce Wednesday that it is teaming up with a Mark Cuban-venture that has been pushing a model meant to be more transparent and offer lower costs to consumers.
Giant Eagle Pharmacy plans to partner with Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug, a company that carries the name of the Mount Lebanon native and Dallas Mavericks owner, with the companys CEO and Mr. Cuban giving more details about the deal in Robinson at an early afternoon event.
Dallas-based Cost Plus Drug Co., which was incorporated as a for-profit public benefit corporation, focuses on keeping prices down with a process that discloses the prices it pays manufacturers for prescription drugs and then adds a 15% markup.
Although the Cost Plus Drugs program already has ties to some smaller pharmacy operations in the Pittsburgh region, Giant Eagle says the partnership will give the program access to customers in the five states where it has stores.

(38,461 posts)2. Yes and the Giant Eagle pharmacies are taking over in a lot of areas
I think Giant Eagle is one of the reasons why CVS, Walgreen, Rite Aid and others aren't doing so great.

when the local RiteAids closed. This partnership seems to be mutually beneficial.
