Street to Step Down as PA Democrats Chair; Plans to Endorse DePasquale For Job
A change is a-foot for the Pennsylvania Democratic Party.
State chair Sharif Street announced Monday afternoon that he will step down as head of the state party to concentrate his energies on a run at the U.S. Congress. It is anticipated that he will endorse former Pennsylvania Auditor General Eugene DePasquale for the position.
Street, who presently serves as a State Senator for Philadelphia in the 3rd Senatorial District, has announced his candidacy to replace U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans in Congress. Evans has announced that he will not seek reelection to his 3rd Congressional District seat.
This was not an easy decision but it is the right one, wrote Street in an announcement on social media. Now, as I focus on my campaign for Congress, I believe its time to make space for the next chapter of leadership so our party can continue to grow, win our crucial judicial elections this fall, and then turn toward reelecting our Governor and Lieutenant Governor, flipping congressional seats to take back control of Congress, and defeating Donald Trump and the MAGA agenda once and for all.
