East Petersburg mayor misses election deadline, will run again as a write-in
East Petersburg interim Mayor Bill Trovato intends to wage another write-in campaign this fall after missing the deadline to get his name on the municipal election ballot.
In the May 20 primary, Trovato, a Democrat, received 286 write-in votes to qualify for a spot on the Nov. 4 general election ballot, but he failed to file the necessary paperwork with the county elections office by the Aug. 1 deadline.
Trovato did not respond to requests for comment. Lizz Bender, deputy district director for the Hempfield Area Democratic Committee, said in an email statement that the missed deadline was due to a mixup.
The borough council installed Trovato as mayor after former Mayor James Malone, a Democrat, defeated Republican Lancaster County Commissioner Josh Parsons in a March special election to fill the empty 36th District state Senate seat.
