Race for Pittsburgh mayor turns quiet during final month

After a bruising primary full of TV ads, yard signs and political sparring, Pittsburgh’s mayoral race has entered a quieter phase.

With just weeks left until Election Day, Democrat Corey O’Connor and Republican Tony Moreno have traded mass media blitzes for smaller, face-to-face meetings with voters. The two will face off Nov. 4 and on Tuesday will participate in the first debate of the election season, hosted by KDKA.

Mr. O'Connor, the Allegheny County controller, has been trekking across the city, visiting with senior residents in Bloomfield, attending a community picnic in Sheraden and helping register voters in the Hill District.

Mr. Moreno, a retired city police officer running without the support of local Republican committees, has focused on door-to-door conversations in neighborhoods citywide and recently hosted a town hall in Homewood focused on housing and public safety.
