Clearfield County commissioner outlines proposed new election precincts for DuBois-Sandy
DuBOIS Clearfield County Commissioner Dave Glass, who also serves on the countys Board of Elections, outlined proposed new election precincts for the consolidated City of DuBois during Mondays work session of the DuBois-Sandy Township Joint Board.
Glass said the changes come as part of a countywide review of precinct boundaries and present an opportunity to address imbalances created by the citys consolidation with Sandy Township. The old boundaries between DuBois City and Sandy Township are now meaningless with consolidation, which provides an opportunity to equalize, he said.
With consolidation comes an opportunity to review everything, Glass said, noting that the county is looking at several precincts across the county. However, he said the consolidation is a unique situation and he felt it was important to keep DuBois-Sandy Township officials in the loop as to what the county is thinking about doing.
Glass explained that the review aims to even out voter populations among precincts and improve efficiency, both for the county elections office and for voters. Currently, precinct sizes in the DuBois and Sandy Township area vary widely from fewer than 700 registered voters in some to more than 3,000 in others.
