Cruz announces write-in campaign for Shamokin mayor

SHAMOKIN — Israel Cruz is running a write-in campaign as an Independent candidate for mayor of Shamokin.

Cruz, who is also a judge of elections in the Seventh Ward, wants the city to be self-sufficient by 2029, debt-free by 2031, free of property taxes by 2033 and revitalized by 2035. He also wants to bring 1,111 jobs into the city.

“For four years, I’ve walked these streets, seen our struggles and dreams of more. Shamokin’s best days aren’t behind us — they’re ahead, but only if we dare to think big,” he said.

Cruz said his revitalization plan might sound “wild,” but he recited the famous quote: “Shoot for the stars, lasso the moon.”
