Jim Wertz (D) removed as Erie Co. board of elections chair

Erie County Council has voted to remove their board of elections chair in a special meeting.

County councilman Jim Wertz was voted unanimously to be the chair of the Erie County Board of Elections earlier this year, but Thursday night, county council voted 4 to 3 to remove him from that position.

Wertz said during the meeting that multiple members of council believed that he had a conflict of interest stemming from a meeting he took in 2025 with a group that believed the 2024 election contained statistical anomalies.

The vice chair of the board of elections, Chris Drexel, will be taking over as chair following Wertz’s removal.
