Fayette County election officials announce precinct changes
Voters at 11 precincts in Fayette County will be reporting to new polling places for next weeks primary as part of the months-long work by the elections board to consolidate and streamline locations.
Planning for the consolidation plan began last year when elections officials started collecting data at all 77 precincts in Fayette County. They reviewed the number of voters, average turnout for each election and the number of people using mail-in ballots rather than going to the polls, while also reviewing the distance to the nearest voting location in the same municipality.
Using that information, elections officials proposed consolidating 22 polling places into 11 due to their smaller size and proximity to other locations.
After settling on a plan, the elections board held two public meetings and a hearing for public comment, while also posting notices as all the affected precincts over the winter. The plan was approved in February by Fayette County Court of Common Pleas Judge Joseph George Jr.
