Mae Beavers to run for Wilson County mayor

Former state senator and onetime Tennessee gubernatorial candidate Mae Beavers obtained a petition Friday to run for Wilson County mayor.

Beavers got the petition just before 3 p.m., according to the Wilson County Election Commission website, saying she had received a number of calls from people asking her to consider running for the mayor's seat.

"I had a group of people meet with me last Saturday," said Beavers who then "took a week," to think and pray about running for mayor before deciding to enter the race.

To qualify as a candidate for Wilson County mayor, Beavers will need to return the petition with the required 25 signatures of registered voters who are eligible to vote for the candidate on the petition they sign. Beavers intends to follow through and qualify, she said.
