These Dallas City Council candidates have raised the most money
Dallas City Council candidates have raised nearly $1.2 million through donations and personal loans since the beginning of 2024. The most expensive races so far are Districts 1 and 11, where the pressures of growth and development have catapulted the communities into electoral battlegrounds, campaign finance reports show.
Incumbent council member Chad West (District 1), whose district covers neighborhoods south of Interstate 30 in North Oak Cliff and has been the focal point of debates surrounding gentrification and rezoning, singlehandedly raised around $200,000 92% of the money in his race. West is also the highest fundraiser among the entire slate of more than 40 candidates vying for a seat at the table.
The Dallas Morning News analyzed campaign reports from three different reporting periods between Jan. 1, 2024, and April 3, 2025, the latest filing deadline for the upcoming May 3 election.
All 14 council districts are up for election, and campaign finance reports often reflect the fundraising advantage incumbents wield. Voters will also elect at least four new council members, representing Districts 4, 6, 8 and 11.
