Bill Cox leading in race to become McKinney's next mayor, early election results show

In the race to steer McKinney’s growth and development, Bill Cox was leading in the city’s mayoral race, unofficial early results show. But it was not yet clear if the race would go to a runoff.

Cox, a realtor and former council member, has received 47% of early and mail-in votes, according to unofficial results posted on Collin County’s website. Pastor and former Republican state representative Scott Sanford received 41% of early and mail-in votes. Estate attorney Taylor Willingham received 6% and eye surgeon Matt Rostami received 5%.

If no candidate garners more than half the votes Saturday, the race goes to a runoff on June 7.

Around 13,400 votes were counted from early and mail-in ballots, according to Collin County’s early tabulations.
