Three people died during a shooting outside a Target at 8601 Research Blvd., officials said Monday afternoon.
According to Austin police chief Lisa Davis, officers responded to the Target at 2:15 p.m., where they found three people shot in the parking lot. Medics pronounced two of the victims dead on the scene, while the third was transported to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. A fourth person suffered unrelated injuries.
According to Davis, the suspect a 32-year-old man she did not identify hijacked a car from the parking lot and fled the scene. He later crashed the car, Davis said, and allegedly hijacked a second vehicle from an auto dealership.
Authorities say that vehicles in the Target parking lot will not be allowed to leave until the investigation is complete.
Police arrested the man in the 2400 block of La Costa Court in South Austin. Davis said the alleged shooter has a history of mental health issues.
