Christian Menefee and Amanda Edwards appear headed for District 18 special election runoff
HOUSTON The special election to fill the seat of the late Congressman Sylvester Turner in District 18 appears to be heading to a runoff.
That runoff would be between Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee and former Houston council member Amanda Edwards {both Democrats}.
Menefee told supporters Tuesday that he fully intends to become a sitting congressman in due time. He not only expects to win the special election for District 18, which would finish out the current term. He also plans to run in the primary next year to stay in the seat.
"I think what we learned from this first round of voting is that the community is with us overwhelmingly," Menefee said. "But I'm gonna have to keep running. I am still running. I'm running in the runoff and I am running in the 2026 primary for the 18th congressional district."
