Hawkins City Council Election Overturned

A court has overturned the outcome of a Hawkins City Council election. It has left a seat vacant until May 2026. More than 100 ballots cast in the race for the Place 5 Alderman seat on the Hawkins council were illegal because voters did not sign a voter roster to certify that they were eligible to cast a ballot. The woman who filed the lawsuit did so without the assistance of an attorney. Smith County District Judge Taylor Heaton heard the case. The 402nd District Court in Wood County appointed Heaton.
