Clay County votes to abolish election administrator office

CLAY COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) — The Clay County Commissioners Court voted during a special meeting on Tuesday to eliminate the county’s election administrator position, just two weeks ahead of the primary elections.

Commissioners voted to abolish the office following controversy surrounding the former election administrator, Val McClain, who was terminated after allegations of bias towards local candidates during elections.

“The motion was made, discussion was held, and the commissioners voted to abolish the election administrator’s office,” county officials said.

Clay County Judge Mike Campbell said the decision was driven by ongoing challenges with the position and funding concerns.
