Instead of voting anywhere in the county like we normally do, republicants want voters to go to the exact polling place in their precinct.
A necessary change, I supposed, because voting was just so darned easy.

(178,272 posts)I was on the committee that adopted county wide voting from my county back in 2017. I also testified to the Harris County Commissioners court on the use of county wide voting. In Harris County and most other counties with county wide voting, there are joint primaries. This means that when a voter checks in, they pick one party and the front desk checks them in and they are issued a card/paper ballot that lets them vote in that party's primary. The assholes in the Dallas republican party blocked a joint primary

Most counties have joint party primaries. This stunt will not work for the general election

(9,849 posts)Trump and Elon and the silicon valley hackers, with help from the russians, stole the election in 2024.
If we don't start fighting like hell, they're going to do it every election cycle.

(89,660 posts)They REALLY AND TRULY, and rather ARDENTLY do not want you to vote. They dont want you to have the RIGHT to vote. Especially if theyre pretty sure you wont be voting the way they want or need you to vote.

(13,029 posts)But that doesn't address the problem. The number of lost votes will never been fully quantified, but when there is a long line, at least 1 in 10 who are confronted with the line just go home.
Time is money. Lines and having to take time to hunt for your proper voting location is an intolerable poll tax.
The ONE national reform I would like to see when sane people have the majorities. A Lines = Fines bill. Any jurisdiction that under-allocates resources or otherwise mismanages their elections in such a way that voters are subjected to lines of more than 30 minutes needs to face substantial fines -- fines that cost them a lot more than whatever they may have saved. And with that, there need to be standards for the maximum drive time to a ballot drop box or polling place.

(9,849 posts)Once early voting is over and it's the actual election day, we have to go to our precinct to vote.
I'm, however, an 8th generation Texan, and my heart goes out to all of you who are having to put up with what Texas has become under republican rule. It breaks my heart every day to see what has happened to such a great State.
Republicans are great at cheating, lying, grifting and destroying government efficiency. They are really rotten at governing.
