Election officials report stronger-than-expected early voting turnout

Early voting turnout in Victoria County has exceeded expectations ahead of the May 2 city and school elections, with participation driven in part by a high-profile school bond and local district issues.

As of the latest update, about 9.1% of registered voters have cast ballots during the early voting period, according to county election officials. That figure is higher than initially projected.

“We generally were expecting around 5 to 6 percent, so the 9.1 percent is really good,” Elections Administrator Karen Cline said. “It’s great that we have a lot of people engaging.”

Cline said voter awareness appears strong across the county, with multiple items on the ballot drawing attention, including school-related measures and local water district races.
