SALT LAKE CITY Singer-songwriter Todd Snider was forced to cancel a performance scheduled this weekend in South Salt Lake after claiming he had been assaulted before the concert, and he was then arrested for allegedly causing a disturbance at the hospital where he was treated.
Snider was set to play at The Commonwealth Room for the second stop of his "High, Lonesome and Then Some" tour. However, on social media, Snider's team posted that he "sustained severe injuries as the victim of a violent assault outside of his hotel," although they shared no details.
The South Salt Lake Police Department said Tuesday that it has limited information on what may have occurred, sharing how its officers responded to the venue on reports of an alleged assault, but said, "the exact location and details surrounding this incident remain unclear." Court documents show Snider, 59, was arrested on Sunday for his own behavior at a local hospital.
After being treated at Holy Cross Hospital (formerly known as Salt Lake City Regional), police said Snider was discharged by staff, although he believed he should not have been. Police said Snider yelled and cursed at the staff before being told to leave. An employee told him not to return, but he did, and allegedly threatened a member of the staff, saying he would "kick your a__."

Americana troubadour Todd Sniders scheduled performance Saturday in South Salt Lake was canceled minutes before doors were scheduled to open although the details of what happened are murky. On Monday, an announcement posted on Sniders social media said the musician sustained severe injuries as the victim of a violent assault outside of his hotel. The announcement also said Snider will be unable to perform for an undetermined amount of time, and the current tour has been canceled.
On Tuesday, the South Salt Lake Police Department issued a statement indicating that on Saturday at 3:40 p.m. officers were called to investigate a reported assault of a 59-year-old man at The Commonwealth Room the venue where Snider was scheduled to perform that night. Limited information was obtained, the statement said. At this time, the exact location and details surrounding this incident are unclear.
On Monday, a Salt Lake City Police Department spokesperson said there was no record of an assault victim by Sniders name. On Tuesday, though, the department confirmed that officers had interacted with Snider Sunday afternoon. Salt Lake City Police Det. Michael Ruff said Snider had flagged someone down Sunday afternoon at 245 S. State Street, near The Aster apartments, at about 3:40 p.m. and asked them to call police.
Originally Snider told the dispatcher that he had been beaten up and robbed the night before. When officers arrived he basically told [officers] hed been in town with his band, and the band left him, Ruff said. All he could tell [officers] was he was mugged at the venue he was supposed to play at, Ruff said.

(6,743 posts)Really, I do.
But it ain't like I got a bunch of bodies in my trunk
My old man used to call me a no-good punk
And I still; don't know why
I think I'm an alright guy
...Y'know, just the other night, these cops pulled me over outside a bar
They turned on their lights, and they ordered me out of my car
Man, I was only kiddin' when I called 'em a couple of dicks
But still they made me do the stupid human tricks
Now I'm stuck in this jail with a buncha dumb hicks
And I still don't know why
I think I'm an alright guy

(98,839 posts)I like his music and stories, hope he gets better and this all gets cleared up. I do know that when in salt lick city one must beware the puritans who will call the police on you if they think you aren't acting just like them and their stepford wife syndrome.
I recall someone insisting I 'calm down' when all I did was ask when they would open the gate so I could go deliver the freight I just loaded on my truck. They were upset that I, the truck driver, wasn't equipped at birth with a penis. Anyone they think is not religious or pious enough is subject to entering the legal system at their behest.
Just sayin'.

(21,981 posts)My east coast accent didn't help any, I'm sure.
I just gave them the 'really?' look. They were very uncomfortable and decided that the best way to relieve themselves of my heathen existence was to open the gate and let me out right fucking now.
