'I will be a really accessible mayor' -- Marsha Judkins (R) talks election, plans as Provo mayor
PROVO, Utah (ABC4) Marsha Judkins, who accepted victory in the Provo mayoral election after incumbent Michelle Kaufusi (R) appeared to concede, spoke to ABC4 about the election and her plans for her term as mayor.
Im feeling very like humbled, but so excited for the opportunity, Judkins said. You know, I have a lot of ideas, and I have so many great people who have given me input throughout Provo, and so I Im just really excited about the opportunity that we are all going to have to build on whats already there and then take us forward with new ideas.
Judkins told ABC4 that she has spoken with Mayor Kaufusi over the phone and that she believes the results will stand. The race was extremely tight, with election night counts putting Kaufusi in the lead, and then the next day, Judkins overtook her. Election results wont be certified until November 18, but current counts have Judkins in the lead by over 400 votes.
Judkins said that she has a vision for Provo, one that includes making it easy to start a business in the city and includes making life easier for Provos citizens. She is planning to look at the citys master plans for things like transportation, and she wants to improve transparency from the city government.
