Open house offers peek into proposed Granite Falls bridge project
EVERETT An open house on the proposed bridge replacement project for Granite Falls Bridge 102 will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mountain Way Elementary gymnasium, 702 N Granite Ave., Granite Falls.
Granite Falls Bridge 102 spans the South Fork Stillaguamish River on Mountain Loop Highway 1.5 miles from downtown Granite Falls. At the open house, people will get a chance to view designs for the bridge and learn about next steps for the $28.7 million project set to begin construction in 2028.
Built in 1934, Granite Falls Bridge 102 is 340 feet long and 20 feet wide, which is not considered wide enough for two large vehicles to pass comfortably. The narrow bridge is also showing signs of age and deterioration. The proposed new structure will meet current bridge standards, widen lanes for motorists and bicyclists, add sidewalks for pedestrians and provide dedicated spaces for viewing the Stillaguamish River.
The existing bridge will remain open during construction, which is expected to be completed in 2029. To learn more and sign up for notifications, visit snohomishcountywa.gov/608.
