A year after an extremely unpopular, very destructive plan to shutter neighborhood schools was foiled by grassroots community opposition, voters in the Emerald City have the responsibility of filling a majority of the seats on the districts seven-member school board. NPIs Civic Heartbeat polling indicates that Seattleities are mostly gravitating to a bloc of candidates who are committed to opposing future plots to close schools and other austerity schemes, while one race is tied, with both candidates running even.
Heres what we found:
For Position #2, incumbent Sarah Clark has a small lead over challenger Kathleen Smith. In the aggregate, 30% picked Clark, 24% picked Smith, and 42% were not sure. 5% wouldnt vote.
For Position #4, incumbent Joe Mizrahi has a slightly wider lead over challenger Laura Marie Rivera. In the aggregate, 35% picked Mizrahi, 26% picked Rivera, and 35% were not sure. 4% wouldnt vote.
For Position #5, former board member Vivian Song has a huge lead over rival Janis White. In the aggregate, 45% picked Song, 13% picked White, and 37% were not sure. 3% wouldnt vote.
For Position #7, hopefuls Carol Rava and Jen LaVallee are tied. Each was picked by 26% of respondents, while 42% were not sure and 5% wouldnt vote.
