Plans emerge for first fully integrated cancer care center in South Sound
South Sound Care Foundation plans to build a cancer care in Tacoma on a 1.6-acre site currently owned by First Christian Church.
The $50 million project would be the first fully integrated cancer care center in the South Sound.
Construction on the 100,000-square-foot center at 602 N. Orchard St. will not start until early 2027, said Dr. Frank Senecal, chief medical officer at the South Sound Care Foundation. The foundation plans to acquire the site, which has a tax assessment value of $1.8 million.
Tacoma has very good oncologists and very good doctors, Senecal said. But we have needed a cancer center for several years. We need to have a site where people can receive great care and get evaluated by medical oncologists, learn about risk reduction. Tacoma is also in dire need of a location to conduct research and clinical trials.
