Port of Everett looks to finalize 'conservative' budget, amid revenue uncertainty

EVERETT – Property owners in the Port of Everett taxing district will be assessed a 2.9% increase in taxes in 2026 rather than a 2.9% decrease that was previously announced.

In their yearly budget hearing on Nov. 4, port officials originally announced that port taxes would decrease, and used a hypothetical example of a house worth $590,000.

But three days later, officials walked back their calculation after the county’s levy comptroller said their number did not take into account that house values had risen by 5% for the 2026 tax year. Assessments lag by one year, so the increase in assessed value covers the 12 months between January 2024 and January 2025.

Port officials made the change after The Daily Herald made them aware of the comments from Levy Comptroller Chris Huyboom.
