Cold weather shelters prepare to open for winter season

EVERETT — Cold weather shelters throughout Snohomish County are preparing to open as temperatures are forecasted to drop, the county health department announced in a press release Wednesday.

The county’s seven overnight shelters open when temperatures are forecasted to be at or below 34 degrees Fahrenheit. As of Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service forecasted temperatures to reach 34 degrees Fahrenheit on Saturday night in Everett. The Snohomish County Public Safety Hub online provides daily updates on which shelters are open each night.

Community Transit and Everett Transit provide free rides to cold weather shelters, the release said. Last year, the county’s cold weather shelters provided more than 6,000 bed nights.
