Dan Newhouse belatedly breaks with Donald Trump again, votes with Democrats to repudiate tariffs on Canada

An old adage nails it: There’s nothing like a hanging in the morning to focus the mind. The Trump regime has left the Central Washington economy to hang.

Under fire for voting with the tariff-obsessed wannabe authoritarian, the region’s retiring congressman, Representative Dan Newhouse, broke with Trump yesterday and voted to rescind tariffs he’s slapped on imports from Canada.

He pointed out the obvious in a statement, that “billions of dollars of Washington commodities” head north each year, supporting thousands of jobs.

“The Washington State economy is closely intertwined with that of our neighbors to the north,” Newhouse said, emphasizing the obvious. He ended up being one of just six Republican lawmakers to break ranks, but they made the difference in a 219–211 House vote. A furious Trump posted that the six should be “primaried.”
