Everett Community College pushes back $38 million project
Everett Community College has delayed and scaled back construction on a $38.2 million project planned for its main campus.
The state Legislature approved funding in 2023 to demolish Everetts circa-1962 Baker Hall and replace it with a new academic building. Construction was originally slated to break ground this spring and be completed in time for the fall 2027 session.
The groundbreaking has been postponed to later this fall, with completion now projected for late 2028, college officials confirmed to the Business Journal this week. The old building, which spans 23,710 square feet, will be razed this summer.
Plans for the new building initially called for 32,000 square feet of space, but school officials have since cut the project's footprint by about 10,000 square feet, going from two stories to one. Chris Carson, ECC's associate vice president of campus operations, attributed the shift in timeline to economic headwinds and budget constraints.
