Seattle zoning proposal could add thousands of homes in these neighborhoods
Seattle lawmakers are considering a set of zoning amendments for areas in the University District, Fremont, Madison-Miller, Rainier Beach and downtown.
The Housing Opportunities bill aims to boost home supply and housing affordability by enabling the conversion of vacant office buildings into housing, among other measures. The city estimates that the legislation would create an additional 3,000 to 4,000 homes over the next decade.
The bill is being reviewed by the City Council's land use and sustainability committee. The committee is expected to vote on the measure in early June, city staff told the Business Journal.

Why is the council proposing these changes?
The amendments are part of the citys continued effort to update zoning laws based on its comprehensive plan passed last December. The plan sets out a 20-year roadmap for the city to locate housing and public infrastructure investments.
