Expeditors International cuts 230 jobs as Seattle-area layoffs mount

Expeditors International of Washington Inc. (Nasdaq: EXPD) has laid off hundreds of Seattle-area employees, deepening a broader pullback across the local tech sector.

The Bellevue-based logistics company plans to cut 230 jobs from its internal technology workforce across multiple Washington locations, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the state Monday.

Almost a third of the layoffs are concentrated at its downtown Seattle office at 1200 Third Ave. Its Bellevue headquarters in the Factoria neighborhood accounted for 15% of affected workers. Only two of the total 230 affected employees are based outside the Puget Sound region, in the Spokane area.

In a letter accompanying the filing, Expeditors Chief Information Officer Courtney Hawkins wrote that the layoffs are not expected to cause relocations or outsourcing of the operations.
