Seattle unveils first digital kiosks downtown, with dozens more on the way

IKE, the Interactive Kiosk Experience, has landed in downtown Seattle.
Part of former Mayor Bruce Harrell's Downtown Activation Plan, the 8-foot-tall touchscreens display advertising and offer transit navigation, guides to nearby restaurants and businesses, a 911 emergency call button and a photo booth feature. They also provide public Wi-Fi.
On Tuesday, members of the Downtown Seattle Association and city officials unveiled the first IKE kiosk at First Avenue and Pike Street. Another, at Fourth Avenue and Pine Street, also debuted today.
The screens are funded entirely through advertising revenue. Kiosk vendor IKE Smart City will share a portion of revenues, adding up to $1.1 million each year, to be reinvested by the DSA into cleaning, public art and other street improvement efforts, DSA President and CEO Jon Scholes said at a ribbon-cutting event.
