Melbourne's Bianca Adler, 18, becomes youngest Australian to summit Mount Everest
A Melbourne teenager has become the youngest Australian to summit Mount Everest, achieving the feat about 2:20am Nepal time about eight hours after leaving Camp 4.
A social media post just before 8am AEST announced that Bianca Adler, a year 12 student, had reached the top of the world's tallest mountain.
She is now descending, and has so far made it to Camp 4, which at about 8,000 metres, is still in the "death zone" because there is not enough oxygen to sustain human life for an extended period.

The 18-year-old's parents, Fiona and Paul Adler, accompanied her to Base Camp, with her father going on to Camp 2, at about 6,500 metres, with his daughter.
