The man behind an iconic Canadian beer ad is back, 25 years later, with a new patriotic rallying cry.
But this time, it's not about selling drinks.
Jeff Douglas, from Truro, N.S., became a national sensation after starring as flannel-wearing Joe Canadian in Molson Canadian's 2000 ad "The Rant," which was a huge success for the beer company and popularized the slogan, "I am Canadian!"

"They mistake our modesty for meekness, our kindness for consent, our nation for another star on their flag," he says into the microphone after showing photos of Trump. "And our love of a hot cheesy poutine with their love of a hot, cheesy Putin."

Contains video of the ad, it's great, imo!

Amazing how Trump has managed to nearly unite opposing parties, give a huge boost to the Liberals in polls, and strengthen Canadians' patriotism and sense of unique identity.
We're going to need to hang on to that on the really rough road ahead.

(55,105 posts)I think Canadians, as a whole, realized the crap being spewed by PP's Cons was simply parroting of the US rabid right to deliberately divide us and are now uniting to fight back against what is the real enemy, the trump admin and their insane behavior against Canada.

(2,344 posts)There is still a segment - the "F*** Trudeau" vile nutbars - that worries me. I hope their numbers are shrinking.
But overall, very encouraging, just as I was starting to lose faith in too many of my fellow Canadians.

(55,105 posts)We have our nutbars for sure as does Saskatchewan, another province that is slightly less conservative than Alberta. They have been relatively quiet, overall, but who knows how long that will last.
There was a recent poll done and 90% of Canadians are adamantly against joining the US, the 10% wanting it are, sadly, largely located in the two prairie provinces but they are definitely the fringe even there.
To see PP's numbers tumble has been great to see, I definitely hope it continues it's downward slope.
