The maker of Tide and Charmin said it will raise prices in part because of tariffs

Procter & Gamble, the maker of several household staples including Tide detergent and Charmin toilet paper, is hiking prices because of President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

The company revealed in Tuesday’s earnings call that its profits will take a $1 billion hit because of tariffs, a larger cost the company originally projected in June. As a result, P&G will increase prices on about 25% of its products, going into effect next month.

P&G previously warned in April that it was going to increase prices due to tariffs.

P&G joins a long list of well-known companies that are increasing prices because of Trump’s often erratic stance on tariffs. Nike, Walmart, Best Buy as well as car companies Ford and Subaru have all said they are raising prices.

Canadians should be glad prices for local bathroom tissue (eg, Royale) and laundry detergent (eg, Old Dutch) are quite stable and frequently on sale.

raised prices during covid and if they lowered prices after covid ???

The brand I used raised prices but never lowered them after covid.

It seems once they raise prices, no matter the reason, the prices never go back down.

It seems the consumer is getting fucked from every direction.

This week I noticed that frozen tilapia increased 30% from only 2 weeks ago. I read labels and only buy stuff discounted or on sale or is in the discount food rack. I live close to poverty level in CA and it takes me twice as long to shop than the average person since I have to compare, read, and do the math before anything goes into my cart. I can't cut down any more I have been since I was literally a "starving artist" then I made a career move to one with big bucks...a school teacher (HA!) until I got sick and had to stop. I have always lived like it is the Great Depression. Now I guess my 81 pound body will disappear completely. I lost 15 pounds last years from tRump related stress, in 6 months a strong wind will blow me away. MAGA will be joyous, one less Dem to torture.
