Thinking of trying a VPN?
Since tsf stole the last election, there's been an uptick in enquires on DU about using a VPN.
I've been using Mullvad on and off for several years. It has a couple of advantages over others;
-No need to enter an email addy; transactions are carried out by account number
-Pay by the month when you need it. No yearly subscription. Flat rate of 5 euros a month. You can renew each month or not use for several months then reactivate with your account number.
-Filter ads, malware and other nasties
The Bottom Line
Mullvad VPN has a sterling reputation for securing your connection and protecting your privacy, all for an unbeatable price.
Per Month, Starts at $5.55 US
No, I'm not connected to the company in any way, just find their product to be a good, effective one. Easy to set up and use, perfect for DUers who wish to have extra privacy in these trying times.

I dont' know how they work so I'm reading up on it. Thanks for the recommend. $5.55 a month sound very reasonable to protect my privacy.

(227 posts)that you can buy a $57 annual subscription from Amazon. You get a card with a scratch-off section (like a lottery ticket) that covers/hides the account number used/required by Mullvad. So Amazon only knows they sold you a subscription card but doesn't know the account number that you'll be using. The Mullvad servers would only see the account number but not know who is using it (no credit card details on their end). I would suggest trying Mullvad, or any VPN for that matter, for a month or two by paying with cash or credit card in order to see if it works for you first before buying an annual subscription.

(75,954 posts)I mean, it worked to connect with some runaround falderol too above my pay grade, and just let it sit in the apps, now for YEARS. I don't "get" the VPN stuff (among myriad of other things).
