IMAC hard drive

Apple is replacing my hard drive for the second time in my new IMAC. Has anybody else had this problem? I love the computer when it works.

I've had plenty of bad luck with 2.5" drives in newer Macs. eppur_se_muova Jul 2013 #4

I'm curious what brand it is.

When you get it back, go to About This Mac > More Info... > System Report...

And look under Serial-ATA.

The drive in my wife's MacBook Air died twice. Luckily I had her set up Time Machine and she lost nothing.

It does not show the brand, unless the HT means Hitachi. It says:
APPLE HDD HTS541010A9E662:

Capacity: 1 TB (1,000,204,886,016 bytes)
Model: APPLE HDD HTS541010A9E662

it was eventually part of a recall and Apple sent me a check after contacting them and providing documentation.

Don't know what to tell you, but it's obvious that doing backups are probably a really good idea.

I have time machine backups, so I will be able to restore what was backed up. I am feeling like I just happened to get a lemon and was wondering how unusual my experience was. I got the computer in April.

3.5" drives in older Macs are mostly still working, after more than a decade. I can't get the 2.5" drives to last much over a year. And the OS X Disk Utility doesn't seem to repair much of anything that I've encountered.
