MAC Mail trouble

This has to do with my wife's IMAC running 10.6. About 2 weeks ago Mail started acting strange. It intermittently changes her outgoing SMTP server to NONE or will blank out her password. I read online forums about outbox troubles where it was suggested to delete the "com/apple.mail.plist" file.

I know that I can restore the file to its proper location if that doesn't fix the problems or worse causes new problems, but I am hesitant. My wife is very suspicious of the "magic" of how computers work or don't work. She balks at any attempt to give her a basic knowledge of how things work but then wants explanations.

HELP!!!! ME!!!! Thanks

That's a military acronym for Effing Magic. After resetting numerous times it cleared up. I hope the gremlin is exorcised for good.

Thanks for asking.
