A Colombian presidential candidate remains in intensive care after he was shot three times - twice in the head - at a campaign event in the capital, Bogotá.
Miguel Uribe Turbay, a 39-year-old senator, was attacked while addressing supporters in a park on Saturday. Police arrested a 15-year-old suspect at the scene, the attorney general's office said.
Uribe's wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, called on the nation to pray for his survival, saying: "Miguel is currently fighting for his life. Let us ask God to guide the hands of the doctors who are treating him."
Uribe's Centro Democratico party condemned the attack, calling it a threat to "democracy and freedom in Colombia".

Revelation from Gustavo Petro follows shooting of Miguel Uribe Turbay by alleged 15-year-old hitman in Bogotá

The security detail for the Colombian presidential candidate who was shot at a campaign rally over the weekend was severely reduced on the day of the attack, the country’s president has said.

Miguel Uribe Turbay, 39, was shot twice in the head at close range by an alleged 15-year-old hitman while campaigning in Bogotá on Saturday. He has reportedly shown little response to medical interventions.

On Monday, President Gustavo Petro called for an investigation into the sudden reduction of the security team, posting on social media: “I must now report that the protection scheme for Senator Uribe was reduced, strangely, on the day of the attack, from seven to three people.”
