Stop & Shop faces potential strike in Massachusetts, New England over contract dispute

SOMERVILLE, Mass. —
Stop & Shop and Teamsters Local 25 are in a contract dispute that could lead to a strike and the closure of a Massachusetts distribution center.
Stop & Shop says it's trying to address high operational costs at a distribution site in Freetown, Massachusetts.
If there's no agreement with the union, it would transition to a third-party partner and close the southeastern Massachusetts facility, the company told ABC6 in Providence.
The closure could happen as early as the end of this month.
