PORTLAND, Ore. — The Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) said Friday that they have reached a tentative deal for nurses at eight Providence hospitals, with plans to vote on whether to ratify it this weekend. The nurses have been on the picket lines for over a month.

Providence and ONA returned to the bargaining table this week, after striking nurses from all eight hospitals rejected Providence's last offer nearly two weeks ago. Those hospitals include Providence Portland, Providence St. Vincent, Providence Newberg, Providence Seaside, Providence Medford, Providence Milwaukie, Providence Hood River and Providence Willamette Falls.

Nearly 5,000 unionized nurses from eight Providence hospitals around the state have been on strike since Jan. 10. They're asking for competitive wages, as well as better working conditions and staffing levels at hospitals.

In a statement, ONA said nurses have been striking for a total of 43 days, saying that all hospitals but one, Providence Medford, "strongly recommend" said tentative agreement; Medford is "neutral."
