SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The National Labor Relations Board has stepped in after labor leaders accused Healthy Living of meddling in union elections, dismissing the grocery chain’s appeal and clearing the way for collective bargaining.

Healthy Living operates three grocery store locations in South Burlington, Williston, and Saratoga Springs, New York. Workers at all three stores voted to unionize with Workers United back in April. But the store owners appealed the legitimacy of the vote and wanted the NLRB to order a new election.

The NLRB dismissed Healthy Living’s claims, saying they didn’t present evidence warranting any further proceedings.

Casey Moore, an organizer with Workers United, says in all the unions she’s helped organize, this is the first time she’s seen a company push for a re-election when there’s a majority voting to unionize, 105 to 69. “There’s other things that companies will do to try to fight unions and union-bust. They could try to delay bargaining and not agree to things at the bargaining table. But, yeah, it was pretty shocking to us that they objected to the results of the election; that’s pretty extreme,” Moore said.
