Question re. headhunters 'representing' you with employers

I had a headhunter mention to me that if I found a job opportunity listed online directly from a company to let him know and he could possibly represent me if they already had a relationship with that employer. His rational made sense on one level - that he could get my resume in front of the hiring manager instead of taking a chance on being filtered out by keyword matching software.

On the other hand it's a given that headhunters don't work for free, and if they represent me with an employer they'll be getting a commission from that employer.

So my question is - would it be a turn-off to a company to have a headhunter submit my resume for a position which that company posted online, knowing that if they hire me they'll be paying a commission?

If the company is so cheap that they won't pay a fee, IMHO my long term prospects aren't that bright.

I figure - let the headhunters do all the legwork for me, that's what their commission is all about. I try to keep current with the headhunters (as in "don't forget about me!&quot , however, I still apply directly.

I would guess having a real person talk to the employer on your (our) behalf is better than writing a silly cover letter for your resume/CV. Who knows if anybody reads cover letters and resumes anymore, since computers do all the keyword searches now on employment sites.

My 2 cents...
