https://bio.au.dk/en/about-biology/news-and-events/show/artikel/hurtigvoksende-traeer-tager-over-i-fremtidens-skove-og-saetter-biodiversiteten-under-presClimate change, deforestation, and habitat loss are promoting increasingly uniform forests, where fast-growing tree species displace native trees. This reduces biodiversity, makes trees less resilient to disease, and weakens forests ability to store CO₂.

But the worlds forests are entering a new era, characterized by homogenization, biodiversity loss, and weakened ecosystems. This is shown by a comprehensive international study recently published in the leading journal Nature Plants.
This is a worrying development, according to Jens-Christian Svenning, Professor and Director of the Danish National Research Foundations Center for Ecological Dynamics in a Novel Biosphere (ECONOVO) at the Department of Biology, Aarhus University, and one of the leading authors of the Nature Plants study.
The most threatened species are often slow-growing specialists, as Jens-Christian Svenning describes them. These are trees with thick leaves, dense wood, and long lifespans, often associated with stable environments particularly moist tropical and subtropical forests.

That's an oxymoron.

(21,721 posts)The fact that the fascists are actively fighting efforts to combat Climate Change elevates them on my list of priorities.
For some time now, Ive been telling my representatives and senators that our top priority must be survival. Highest priority is the survival of life on the planet. Next, the survival of humanity. Then the survival of individuals. Im a big fan of Democracy, but there are other political systems, if switching to a benevolent dictator (a philosopher royal if you will) would help with my top priorities, I would reluctantly accede.
With a six-year-old in charge of our country, Ive pretty much given up all hope that we can turn back the slower death. I believe there is a significant chance that we may face a much more rapid death, due to a nuclear exchange.

You know, it's very interesting. You use the word global warming and today they use the word climate change because, you know, you have some places that go up and so they were getting themselves in a little trouble with the word global warming because not every place is warming. Some places are going the opposite direction.
But, you know, I'm sort of waiting for you to come up with solar panels on the roofs of your cars and on the trunks of the cars. And it just seems like something that at some point you will come up with. I'm sure you'll be the first, but it would seem that a solar panel on the roofs, you know, on flat surfaces, on certain surfaces might be good, at least in certain areas of the country where you have the, or the world where you have the sun.
But I would think, and I have no idea because that's not my world, but I would think that this would be something that would be interesting. But, you know, the one thing that I don't understand is that people talk about global warming or they talk about climate change, but they never talk about nuclear warming. And for me, that's an immediate problem because you have, as I said, five countries where you have major nuclear and, you know, probably some others are getting there and that's very dangerous.
That's where you need a strong American president because you just, you don't want to have this proliferation. But you have five countries and getting more, you know, China is much less than us right now, but they're gonna catch us sooner than people think. They're way lower.
